Captain Constable, the son of
John Constable RA. The captain, an artist like his father, had been ocupied for some years in a survey of the Persian Gulf for the Admiralty, and could inform Gibson about the men he had encountered in that region: "the finest race of men in the world walking about like Greek statues of Phidian excellence".
