Content Description

He wishes Humphry a happy new year and thanks him for his long and interesting letter. Mr. White of Plymouth and his daughters have stayed with him, full of distress at the death of a married daughter. They have now recovered sufficiently for Mr White of Plymouth to talk of accompanying Mr White of Exeter to London.

He is unsure of Smirke's semi-circular theatre design and thinks [Westmacott's] statue of Duke of Bedford a solicism, dress in Ducal robes and leaning on a plough as he is. He would like more recollections of Sir Joshua Reynolds who Humphry knew well.
