He apologises for not replying to Humphry's letters sooner, but he met with an accident in the street. His left leg was hurt, but not broken; however the gout then attacked him virulently. Despite his confinement his spirits are high and he thinks the worst is over.

As to Humphry's letter. Provides the Lady's disposition is agreeable to him and that they are well acquainted, since they lived at the same Row, his friends should rejoice that a connexion should take place. He will keep Humphry's letter strictly secret until he hears otherwise.
