He called with Tom Bourke to consult on a very important matter. Bourke has seen Miss Rix and is so smitten that he wishes to pay his address to her. He resolves to part with Mary and go to the West Indies. This matter must be brought to bear to both save him from destruction and her from her father. They need to talk to Humphry. Tom swears to have her if she is to be had.
