He has already discuessed his unpromising situation. Since his return he has published a leaflet and received flattering attention from professional men and gentlemen, but this does nothing to fill his pockets. "One well furnished pocket, will out-weigh ten thousand heads, tho' crammed with knowledge". He is heartlity sick of the place. He has heard that Mr Devaynes is looking for a junior partner and offers himself for the post.
