Content Description

The writer describes how he had left Constantinople to escape the plague, and gone by sea to Smyrna, where he was painting portraits of English and foreign residents and their wives, and officers of the Royal Navy, which when finished would more than pay the expenses of his trip. He intended to return to Constantinople to paint the Sultan's portrait. There follows a description of events in Smyrna. Atkins concludes by asking to be remembered to various friends.
