Letters had crossed: one from von Herkomer's wife to Storey's wife, hoping that he would stay the night. What a time it took sometimes for men to come together. Von Herkomer strongly recommended the Royal Academy to keep men apart: "We never warm up there, and in fact never quite know where we are."
