Confirming details of a commission to paint a portrait of
Sir Hugh Beaver. In a telephone conversation between them, Middleton Todd had offered to reduce his normal fee for a kit-cat portrait to 400 guineas. The secretary had, needless to say, informed the members of his council that the artist's generosity in doing so was to be confined to its own circle.
