He sends £340 for the purchase of
Antoinette, by
E.M. Ward. He has heard strong doubts expressed as to the geniuness of the Constable. It has been said that the picture sold at Foster's sale was a sketch, hence it went for a small sum, and that it was finished by another artist. He has every wish to retain it but would glad if White assisted him in proving its authenticity.
He then quibbles with White's charges in relation to Farrer's work on the picture, referring to the fact that White has only just begun dealing in pictures.
