Content Description

He appreciates the sympathy of a brother painter. Rochester has an unshakable Tory majority, shored up by beer and bribery, "but I am rather fond of storming strongholds---Arab or Conservative!". He is still keen to gain a seat in Parliament, in order to promote British art, ideally he wants St. John's Wood. The election has made him poor, but he is sick of public mismanagement.
