Moore had been in Naples since the middle of October with four or five ships: they had been, and remained, in a kind of equivocal state that rendered their residence there less free and unembarrassed than it would be in ordinary times; Moore's observations on Italian politics; Moore was much pleased with part of Lawrence's address to the Academy in which he did justice to a friend of Moore's who was not much in the habit of having justice done to him either by his brethren or by the public.
