Clausen was at a loss how answer Lamb's letter. He didn't see how anyone could fix a programme to apply to all students alike, except that they should attend the life classes. What they should do at other times should depend on the judgement of the teacher, in accordance with the student's needs: such as still life painting for those whose sense of colour was undeveloped.
