Content Description

He reminds Humphry of his promise to send a set of Rowlandson's etchings. Calcutta has grown greatly since Humphry left, but the arts stand still. He thinks Home, who has had success at Madras, will find Calcutta sterile. Devis is up-country, on am ambitious project to paint the various manufactures of India. Alefounder is there, but doing little or nothing. Solvyns , a "tolerable good sea painter" has produced "tolerable good views" of Calcutta. The Daniells [Thomas and William] are in Mysore country. Capt. Bailly has turned school master and has completed a plan of Calcutta.
