In reply to their letter dated 21 July 1874, informing them that while the RA's advertised notice protected them against liability for the loss of works sent in to the Exhibition [as in the case of two paintings submitted by their client, Mr Urban Mills] he had nevertheless written to Mr Mills to request a full account of the matter.
