In reply to the Secretary's letter of 6 May 1901: the King felt sure that the omission of the President [Sir Edward Poynter] to wear his chain and badge of office recently was due to inadvertence, but believed that, contrary to Eaton's statement, it was not the case that the then Presidents did not wear their insignia during certain stated visits by Queen Victoria.
