Content Description

Gillick replies to Lamb's letter and enclosures of 18 January 1946 and describes events relating to the commission of memorials to Admirals Jellicoe and Beatty in Trafalgar Square. He does not accept [Sir William Reid Dick's] letter on the subject of 9 January 1946 as being true or fair, and objects to his own letter to Sir Edwin Lutyens of 10 November 1937 being placed before the Council. Sir William Llewellyn had informed him of certain people working in an underhand way to destroy the original scheme for statues instead of fountains. [Dick's] letter reveals a conspiracy to cheat two sculptor members of the Royal Academy of their rightful honours and rewards.
