Historical Background
The allegations were raised at the meeting of Council of 22 November 1843; Baily's reply was read to the Council and recorded verbatim in the minutes on 25 November 1843, together with Council's resolution that they record their regret that Baily had, on his own admission, been guilty of interference in the competition.
