Historical Background

George Agar-Ellis, who had commissioned the group portrait of 'The Trial of Queen Caroline, 1820' from the artist Sir George Hayter, was created Baron Dover on 20 June 1831. He died at Dover House, Whitehall on 10 July 1833.

Content Description

Dover thanks Bowyer for the proofs of the engraving of the Queen's Trial. He asks for a copy of the key, unmounted, so that he could frame it and place it with the original picture. Dover concludes with a reference to the fact that he had been ill.
