Content Description

Volume of minutes of the Council, including the following selected entries: a statement for submission to the General Assembly advocating that the Council should continue to prepare an annual report on finance for that body based on the annual report of the Auditors, rather than submit the report itself, 28 October 1824; entries relating to the theft of paintings from the summer exhibition, 14 June 1830, and note of a subsequent change to the notice of liability for exhibitors, 8 February 1831; a note of the temporary suspension of the regulation preventing rearrangement of exhibition paintings following the end of varnishing days, in order to permit the relocation of a portrait of Lady Falkland, daughter of King William IV, which had been accidentally placed in an obscure position, 25 April 1831; a note of the need for financial retrenchments, including the avoidance of making further donations that year, 8 August 1832; and a resolution that the place of any member with whom there had been no contact for ten years should be deemed vacant, following consideration of the case of Elias Martin, of whose existence there had been no proof for 60 years, 23 October 1832.
