He asks for a loan of £20 as he is suffering miserably from want of money, he has even been asking his models for credit. He is not safe until he has paid his legal bills. Even so, he goes to bed "glowing with aspirations" and would never choose to be even the richest of portrait painters. With support he should finish Zenophon by August.
