Content Description

He has arrived safely but is missing her dreadfully, feels "wretched" and wishes he'd quit the army. He continues, feeling very, very sorry for himself. He and Banbury are always together, the day before he dined with Hamilton and this day he dines at the Duke of York's table, tomorrow with Stephens. The Duke has grown very large and is in great spirits, they expect to march to Ghent next week.

Colonel Milnes will deliver this letter, respects to Sir William and Lady Chambers. He is truly miserable, 2000 mounted hussars have just passed his window, "they are terrible indeed", he is allowed five horses but has none. Milbanke is in Bruges, "more of a boy than ever", Banbury has reported his behaviour to Gage.
