Historical Background

Richmond received the commission for a memorial for Charles James Blomfield, Bishop of London, in February 1859 after winning a competition. The work was Richmond's first sculptural commission and was to take up much is his time in the following years.

Content Description

Letters and documents relating to a monument for the Bishop of London. Most of the documents relate to the latter days of the project and decisions needed to settle on an inscription.
