Content Description

West had examined with much attention his correspondent's beautiful picture of Correggio/Zingara and thinks it the best he ever saw: whether by [hole in ms] or not he cannot determine, but he thinks it worthy of being done by him. The panel on which the work was painted was of the time of the Carraccis and not that of Correggio: the conclusion therefore was that the piece was done at the time the Bolognese school flourished.

Physical Characteristics

There are two holes in the letter, resulting in partial loss of text. There is also a partial loss of text at the ends of the lines on the reverse, perhaps because they are obscured in the mounting.
