Content Description

He doesn't need holidays, his work is varied enough to keep him fresh. As a poor man he resents straining his resources without reason. He went to Berlin with Tadema to serve on the International Jury and stayed there six weeks, receiving no thanks. When at the last Paris exhibition he won a "medaille d'honneur" but was the only winner not to receive the Legion d'honneur, Leighton, who only received a medal out of courtesy received the title of "Officer". It was a slight, even if unintended. He does not intend to exhibit [at the new Paris exhibition], even if he does it will be a minor work.
