Content Description

Two volumes containing expenditure accounts for the building development by the RA at Burlington House, 1867-1900. The first volume, marked "Academy Book" on the inside cover includes work on the new building (Main Galleries) at Burlington House, 6 June 1867 - 9 December 1870, including payment to the architect, Sydney Smirke; additions and alterations at Burlington House (the new storey and the Keeper's House, 7 June 1872 - 21 June 1874; the building of the architect Richard Norman Shaw's new galleries, 28 October 1884 - 4 September 1886 and work on the Keeper's House and Entrance Hall, 1898-1900 (architect T.G. Jackson). A second volume, marked "Treasurer's Book" otherwise identical, runs to 11 October 1874 only. Notes state that the total annual expenditure was carried forward to the general statement of accounts for that year. The volumes are signed by the Auditors.
