American Associates of the Royal Academy Trust
The Academy has always enjoyed a close relationship with the United States. Many of the our exhibitions are mounted in partnership with major US institutions and there have been a number of Americans Academicians and Honorary Academicians. This connection has been strengthened in recent years through the formation of the American Associates of the Royal Academy Trust (AARAT). The American Associates support:
- the exchange of art exhibitions and scholarship between our two countries
- preservation of historic Burlington House, the magnificent home of the Royal Academy
- ongoing conservation of the RA's Collection of irreplaceable works presented upon election by Academicians such as Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, Henry Raeburn, Sir John Everett Millais, George Stubbs and JMW Turner
- the RA Schools and maintenance of a research Library for art scholars
- the Starr Scholarship for young American artists studying at the Royal Academy Schools
- the Mark Birley Scholarship and Sterling Scholarship for students of any nationality studying at the Royal Academy Schools
