Scott Mead, 'Tracks'. Digital print. 151 × 121 cm. Photo: John Bodkin. This gallery, hung by Barbara Rae RA with the collaboration of Chris Wilkinson RA, focuses particularly on landscape. The works selected feature natural and built environments, and many examine how people inhabit and often leave their mark on the land. As you move through the room there is a deliberate transition from more literal interpretations of this theme, such as the intuitive response of Anthony Eyton RA to natural beauty, to the exploration of human influence on the landscape, as in Scott Mead’s photographic print Tracks. In hanging this gallery, Rae and Wilkinson were eager to ‘soften the transition between the disciplines of art and architecture’.
Thus as you approach the architecture display in Gallery VI, the works illustrate more directly the transformation of the urban environment through models, plans and maps.
