Alison Wilding RA has won the prestigious £25,000 Charles Wollaston Award for her work in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2011. Presented to the ‘most distinguished work’ in the Summer Exhibition, the award presents one of the most significant art prizes awarded in the country.
The Judges this year were Phyllida Barlow, Martin Gayford, Tess Jaray RA and Chris Stephens.

The annual RA Charles Wollaston Award was set up in 1978 with a donation from Charles Wollaston (1914-1992), who was a lecturer in art and an enthusiastic supporter of the RA. From an initial amount of £1,000 it grew, through the subsequent generosity of Charles Wollaston, to £10,000 in 1993. Following his death, the RA received a substantial bequest, which has enabled it to endow a £25,000 prize in perpetuity.
Previous winners of the Charles Wollaston Award include Yinka Shonibare MBE (2010), Richard Wilson RA (2009) Jeff Koons (2008), Gavin Turk (2007), Jake and Dinos Chapman (2003), Alan Charlton (2002), Marc Quinn (2001), Gerard Hemsworth (2000), David Hockney RA (1999), John Hoyland RA (1998) and R. B. Kitaj (1997).
