Sargent: A Personal View

16 July 2010

In the Reynolds Room, a John Madejski Fine Room

Drawing on personal documents and reminiscences, Richard Ormond, Sargent’s great-nephew and Director of the Sargent catalogue raisonné project, traces the story of Sargent’s upbringing as an expatriate American in Europe, his early career and successes in Paris, his struggles to establish himself in London, his rise to fame as the greatest Anglo-American portraitist of his generation, and his prolific output as a landscapist.
