Spring in Somerset
Friends Extended Tour
17 — 20 May 2011
Our annual Spring trip this year takes us to stunning Somerset and surrounding areas. Based in the medieval city of Wells, we visit the twelfth-century Wells Cathedral as well as a number of important homes. These include Cothay Manor, a fifteenth-century manor house; Sherborne Castle, built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594; and Montacute House with its collection of Tudor and Elizabethan portraits from the National Portrait Gallery collection. We also visit the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum to privately tour the ‘Constable & Salisbury: The Soul of Landscape’ exhibition.
