As a young artist in London, however, Lewis showed great promise as a painter and draughtsman of animals. His work was on a par with that of his childhood friend Edwin Landseer, who was to become the foremost animal painter of the Victorian age.</description>

Severs transformed each room into an evocative tableau, designed to draw us into another world, and allowing us to become part of the artistic experience rather than viewing it as outsiders.
