(L-R): Curators Gabriel Hartley, Sir Norman Rosenthal and Eileen Cooper RA

This is the only online exhibition in the UK for secondary-school students at A level. It is live on this website from 9 June to 17 August 2008, showing at the same time as the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, the world’s largest open-submission contemporary art show.

All students currently studying A levels, IB or Higher and attending secondary schools and 6th Form Colleges in the United Kingdom are eligible to enter. Over 760 works were submitted this year from students attending schools from the Shetland Islands to Cornwall, Wales to Norfolk.

The exhibition was curated from a short list by Sir Norman Rosenthal, Royal Academician Eileen Cooper and third-year RA Schools student, Gabriel Hartley.

Norman"Unbelievable…incredibly thoughtful. They know their way around the wonderful world of art. You cannot make art out of the air. You make it because you know art."

- Sir Norman Rosenthal, Curator

Eileen"The students are amazingly well-informed and well taught. I am impressed with the breadth and variety of work. The idealism and difficult issues they dealt with as young people is touching."

- Eileen Cooper RA

Gabriel"The work is impressive and very self aware."

- Gabriel Hartley, RA Schools student

The Royal Academy of Arts is unique among art institutions in that it is run by artists and architects. With its programme of loan exhibitions, its postgraduate art school on site and its library and collection, the Royal Academy is a fascinating resource for a new generation of aspiring young artists.
