American Associates of the Royal Academy Trust
The American Associates of the Royal Academy Trust (AARAT) was incorporated in 1983 as an autonomous 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organisation with its own Trustees and Staff based in New York City. AARAT fulfils the duel mission of raising visibility as well as financial support for the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

RA (AARAT's 2011 John Singleton Copely Award recipient) An American presence in the work and personality of the Royal Academy has been significant from its inception. One of the founding members and its second President was the Philadelphia painter Benjamin West. To this day, the Royal Academy inducts exemplary artists who reside outside of the UK as Honorary Royal Academicians. Today Americans include; Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, IM Pei, Richard Serra, Frank O. Gehry, Ellsworth Kelly, Bruce Nauman, James Turrell, Daniel Libeskind, Ed Ruscha, Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel and Cindy Sherman.

- Preservation of historic Burlington House and its renovation projects
- Preservation and expansion of the Library, Archives and Collections
- The RA Schools
- The renovation of 6 Burlington Gardens
- Various exhibitions

We shall have nothing to unlearn’. Over 200 years later the same spirit of open-mindedness and acceptance of the new still animates the Royal Academy.
