Summer Exhibition Prizes

The panel of judges for each prize changes yearly and includes contemporary artists, architects, curators, art critics, gallerists and representatives of the prize founders.

 

List of prizes and previous winners

Chantal Joffe,

The Royal Academy of Arts Charles Wollaston Award

£25,000 for the most distinguished work in the exhibition.
Previous winners include Alison Wilding RA, Yinka Shonibare, Jeff Koons, Gavin Turk and Chantal Joffe.

The Jack Goldhill Award for Sculpture

£10,000 for a sculpture.
Previous winners include Dae Hun Kwon, Ruth Dupre, Anthony Caro RA, Wilhelm Mundt and Tony Oursler.

The Sunny Dupree Family Award for a Woman Artist

£3,500 for the best painting or sculpture by a woman artist.
Previous winners include Cathy de Monchaux, Elizabeth Magill, Tess Jaray RA, Mali Morris RA and Joana Pires Da Mota.

The Hugh Casson Drawing Prize

£3000 for an original work on paper in any medium, where the emphasis is clearly on drawing.
Previous winners include Cornelia Parker RA, Tony Bevan RA, David Remfry RA, Patrick Gilmartin and Paul Newland.

The London Original Print Fair Prize

£2000 for a print in any medium.
Previous winners include Katsutoshi Yuasa, Anne Desmet, Matthew Coombes and Kate Scrivener.

The British Institution Awards

Four prizes of £1000 each awarded to student exhibitors for paintings, works on paper, sculpture and architecture.
2011’s winners were Barry Cho, Dolores de Sade, Kathy Kirbach and Stephanie O’Connor.

The Rose Award for Photography

£1000 for a photograph or series of photographs.
Previous winners include Gillian Wearing RA, Cindy Sherman Hon RA, Paul Murphy and Bridget Smith.

Lend Lease/Architects’ Journal Awards

£15,000 comprising at £10,000 Grand Award for architecture and £5000 for the best work by a first-time exhibitor in the Summer Exhibition.

Previous winners of the Grand Award include Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects, Stephen Chilton, Eric Parry, and Future Systems. Previous winners of the first-time exhibitor award include Judy Liebert, 6A Architects, Studio Weave, and Neil Deely.
