Foreword

New Schools LogoThe Royal Academy Schools is an independent institution
that offers the only three-year, full-time postgraduate course in fine art in the UK.

As the country’s oldest art school, it has a strong sense of identity, tradition and community, having developed continuously since its foundation in 1768. It is renowned throughout the world as a centre of excellence.

There are no fees, and every effort is made to support students with bursaries, awards and grants for materials, albeit at a quite modest level. However, many students take part-time work – often in the Royal Academy itself – to offset the high cost of living and studying in London.

Though competition for places at the school is great, the advantages for the right individuals are vast. Its history, illustrious alumni, location, the internationally admired programme of loan exhibitions of the RA itself, plus numerous commercial art galleries make it a very stimulating environment in which to study.

We are looking for artists who show complete commitment to their work, a true potential for creative growth and a passionate desire to evolve an original and personal vision.
