Ha Young Kim

Ha Young Kim (b.1983, Seoul, South Korea) lives and works in London. After completing a BFA in Painting at Hongik University, Seoul, she went on to The Royal Academy Schools where she graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art in 2011. She is currently represented by Hoxton Art Gallery.

Her work, peopled by “characterless characters”, explores the interface between humanity and technology: “We have become the passive object of technology’s agency and are ‘sold’ technology upon the basis that it facilitates our convenience or elevates our human capacities. But when we allow technology to act for us, our own ability to be effective atrophies; we feel numb because there is a part of our brain that is dying.”
