Vincent van Gogh - The Letters The Complete Illustrated and Annotated Edition
Vincent van Gogh's letters have long been prized as some of the most valuable documents in the art world and now the entire existing correspondence is published in the most complete edition ever produced. For the first time, every work to which Van Gogh refers is shown alongside the letters, including his own paintings and drawings and work by others that he mentions, whilst sketches made throughout the letters are reproduced at actual size. In over 900 letters the thoughts and opinions of Van Gogh, his sometimes troubled relationships, his personal doubts and fears and above all an overriding passion for his art are displayed in this remarkable compendium.
The Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, launched the Van Gogh Letters Project in partnership with the Huygens Institute, The Hague, in 1994. The present publication is the final result of 15 years of dedicated research by a team of editors and translators. The Editors: Leo Jansen, Hans Luijten, Nienke Bakker. The English translators under the editorial supervision of Michael Hoyles: Sue Dyson, Imogen Forster, Lynne Richards, John Rudge, Diane Webb. The Designer: Wim Crouwel.
