The portraits, landscapes and city views, of Copenhagen and London, by Vilhelm Hammershøi display a disquieting stillness in which the passage of time appears to have been inexplicably suspended. The distinctive portraits of his wife and their apartment depict a series of disturbingly empty, haunting interiors and silent spaces.
This comprehensive catalogue is beautifully illustrated with works that span all stages of Hammershøi's career whilst essays, by Felix Kramer, Naoki Sato and Anne-Birgitte Fonsmark, explore the singularity of his vision.
