Model students

The Royal Academy Schools' students had an unusual assignment this spring when they were asked to model Paul Smith's latest fashion collection.

The shoot was for leading Japanese fashion magazine High Fashion, published by the Tokyo fashion school Bunka Gakuen. It was Smith who suggested using the RA Schools, where he funds a scholarship.

The Editor of High Fashion, Sachiko Okada, enjoyed the experience. ‘There was a real sympathy between the RA students and Paul Smith’s designs, which meant they modelled the clothes really well.’ The feature, published in the April edition, also documented the behind-the-scenes working of the Schools. ‘The RA was very special,’ says Okada. ‘Having a gallery, school and library each connected with the public makes it a rich environment to study art.’
