Life and Death: Pompeii and Herculaneum

Buried by the eruption of Veusuvius in AD 79, the astonishingly well-preserved remains of these two cities provide an unparalleled snapshot of daily life in ancient Rome. This major exhibition will feature more than 250 objects, including casts of human and animal victims, and objects found during recent excavations.
Houghton Revisited

Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, amassed one of the most impressive art collections of his age, which included Rembrandt, Rubens and Poussin. He lavished so much money on art and on building his stunning neo-Palladian pile Houghton, that his heirs had to sell the art to Catherine the Great, and they have adorned the Hermitage in St Petersburg ever since. Now, for the first time, they are returning to their original setting at Houghton.
Reopening of the Rijksmuseum

After 10 years of renovations, the Netherlands' national museum of art and history opens its doors to the public again. It is closely followed by the reopening of the Van Gogh Museum (1 May), also following renovations, as the city celebrates the 160th anniversary of the painter’s birth.
