Summer Exhibition countdown begins

RSS

Forget Spring - Summer is definitely in the air at the RA. As London basks in an unseasonal warm spell, how appropriate that the first Summer Exhibition entries have started to arrive.

Monday was the first day of hand-in, and brought artists from up and down the country and even further afield to the RA, each hopeful of a chance to exhibit in the world's largest open-submission contemporary art exhibition.

Each year more than 100 first time open submission artists are exhibited in the show. Approximately 1,200 works are exhibited each year, and almost two thirds of those works are by non-Academicians.

In the video above, a few of this year's entrants tell us how they feel about the Summer Exhibition and introduce the work they're submitting.

We need a springtime and a winter Exhibition to. There are so much more artists with a lot of verry good works.

At Green Pk station I met a fellow artist, we walked to RA and submitted our work. If either or both our works are selected would be marvellous but a certain positive from our journey is my fellow artist friend has agreed to exhibit at our local exhibition in Blisworth in May. Best wishes

I agree with Sara, it does look like a good one this year, and I'm also thinking "yes, I should have got my act together and entered again" but of course it's too late. I think you should show this video (i.e. a video from the previous years entrants) earlier on in the current year as it inspires you to look at your own work and think about entering something. from Suze with love x

Hi Sarah - if you haven't purchased an entry form it's too late unfortunately, but there's always next year! Check back on our website in January, we will have details up then.

It's looking like a good one coming! I'm now wondering if it's too late to submit for this summer's exhibition? My 'piece' (of art work) is 'good to go'....I just need to get to London (from Oxford). I'd appreciate a speedy response, PLEASE....! I've had one small exhibition (with others).Best wishes Pippa Polar (aka Sarah Warren).
