RA Magazine Blog: Summer's coming

RSS

It's an exciting and very busy time at the Royal Academy this week as entries arrive for the Summer Exhibition (7 June—15 August), the world's largest open-submission contemporary art exhibition.

Each year more than 100 first time open submission artists are exhibited in the show. Approximately 1,200 works are exhibited each year, and almost two thirds of those works are by non Academicians.

In the video below, a few of this year's entrants tell us about their work, why they've decided to enter and what it would mean to them to be selected for the exhibition:

What a fantastic idea to post a video on the site showing people from all walks of life that they can 'have a go' and submit a piece of art for the Summer Exhibition. Will be looking forward to visiting exhibition and will definately submit a piece of artwork next year!

After watching this video of artists who have had their work accepted,I feel inspered to submit some work of my own next year. I have been painting and drawing for the last 40 years and now feel bold enough to put my work forward. To have my work displayed in such a beautiful, historical and artistically atmospheric building would be a wonderful experience.

Interesting video and an exciting time at the Royal Academy in preparation for the forthcoming Summer Exhibition

great to see such a variety of print-works being shown with such varied imagery!

would like a video of the judging

A wonderful website! The short video of some artists submitting work was interesting and left me wanting more.
