Watteau: The Drawings opens Saturday 12 March in the Sackler Wing of Galleries. The first major retrospective of Jean-Antoine Watteau's drawings to be held in the UK, it presents over 80 works on paper by the French artist (1684 – 1721).
In the film below, the exhibition's curators Pierre Rosenberg and Louis-Antoine Prat describe Watteau's masterful 'trois crayons' drawing technique that characterises many of the works in the exhibition:
