Conrad Shawcross RA's 'Timepiece' at Roundhouse

RSS

Recently elected a Royal Academician, Conrad Shawcross has established a career as a Renaissance man; an artist whose fascination with science has led to extraordinary works that fuse beauty with big ideas, often in the form of elaborate machines.

His latest work, Timepiece, is a kinetic light sculpture that transforms the main space of Camden's Roundhouse into a sort of giant sundial. It is a meditation on time, and the ways that human beings have quantified it from the ancient world to today.

In the video above, Conrad Shawcross explains the principles behind the work.
