Asian art
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Asian Art in London (1–10 Nov; www.asianartinlondon.com). It promises to be a hugely successful event with a wide choice of specialist shows and lectures in the fields of Asian and Islamic art. The dealer shows are grouped in three main areas, opening on consecutive nights: Kensington and Chelsea (3 Nov), St James’s (4 Nov) and Mayfair (5 Nov). Museums take part with exhibitions and lecture programmes. There is a specialist tour of ‘The First Emperor: China’s Terracotta Army’ (10 Nov; see page 31) and a chance to see ‘Faith, Narrative and Desire: Masterpieces of Indian Painting’ (until 11 Nov), celebrating the 60th anniversary of Indian independence, at the British Museum. The V&A displays silk robes worn by rulers in ‘Central Asian Ikats from the Rau collection’ (5 Nov–30 March 2008), while the Daiwa Foundation presents ‘Haruo Nakano: Photographs of shikinen sengu’, exploring ritual ceremonies (29 Oct–14 Dec).
