ZSargent and the Sea Exhibition Catalogue
As a young man John Singer Sargent was passionate about the sea and started his professional career as an artist with a remarkable range of maritime works that form the subject of the current exhibition.
The paintings are inspired by his travels in France, around the Mediterranean and by two voyages across the Atlantic. This catalogue includes paintings, marine drawings, a unique scrapbook held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and essays by the exhibition curators and other scholars.
This is the first exhibition devoted to Sargent's marine paintings to be shown in Britain and offers an intimate glimpse into the mind of a young artist on the threshold of a brilliant career.
