Buddhist Meditation Evening

LotusFriday 1 May
6.30-7.30pm

Free admission, booking essential

To celebrate the Kuniyoshi exhibition, the Buddhist Society are offering an evening introduction to Zazen (sitting meditation as practiced in Japanese Zen Buddhism) with the Venerable Sochu.

Buddhism is currently the main religion in Japan, with about 90 million practicing Buddhists. The religion has been practiced in Japan since Prince Shotuku 7th Century CE and was influential during Kuniyoshi’s lifetime from 1797-1861. The Buddhist Society, whose patron is His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is one of the oldest Buddhist institutions in Europe, founded in 1924, by Christmas Humphreys. Venerable Sochu an ordained Zen monk in the Rinzai Zen tradition, who will be leading the evening, is one of the Society’s teachers.
