The Impressionists played a leading role in popularising Normandy’s seaside resorts in the 19th century. Professor John House, Exhibition Curator, from the Courtauld Institute of Art, describes the painters’ relationship with the coast and explores how their canvases offered the fantasy of escape to Parisian viewers.
