As part of a lectures series focusing on the Learned Societies in Burlington House and their contributions to the intellectual and cultural landscape of London, Charles Saumarez Smith, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy, explores the RA’s foundation; the ideas and beliefs of George III, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir William Chambers and the relationship of the RA’s constitution and system of governance to the other learned societies.
