  • 'Synesthesia: Art and Mind', at McMaster University Museum of Art, Ontario, Canada, explores the work of David Hockney (18 Sep-15 Nov; www.mcmaster.ca/museum).   • Anthony Caro and David Hockney contribute to a new book, Talking Art: Interviews with Artists since 1976 (Ridinghouse and ArtMonthly)
  • Anthony Caro and John Hoyland contribute to ‘Ten Great Works from the Sixties and Seventies’ at Poussin Gallery, London (18 Sep-25 Oct)
  • The Royal Academy publishes a book about Philip Sutton by Simon Tait and John Russell Taylor this October
  • Norman Ackroyd, Stephen Chambers, Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, John Hoyland, Bryan Kneale, David Mach and Chris Orr are contributing prints to the group exhibition ‘10’ to honour Professor Chris Orr at the Royal College of Art, London (page 120; 17-26 Oct)
  • Albert Irvin shows ‘New and Recent Prints’ at Advanced Graphics, London (11 Oct-8 Nov), and his exhibition ‘Six paintings’ is at Kings Place Gallery, London (page 40; 1 Oct 2008-31 Jan 2009). He also shows paintings on the Manton Staircase, Tate Britain, London, throughout 2008
  • Craigie Aitchison shows ‘His Prints 1969-2007’ at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal (6 Oct-20 Dec) and new works at Cyril Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow (25 Oct-14 Nov)
  • A solo show of William Bowyer’s watercolour paintings, ‘Views From the Folio’, is at Fosse Gallery, Gloucestershire (26 Oct-15 Nov). Bowyer is renowned not only for his strong portraits, but also for his paintings of the Thames and the Suffolk coast.

  • Richard Deacon’s solo show is at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (19 Sep-13 Dec; www.stedelijk.nl)
  • 'LOT', an exhibition of Antony Gormley’s work, is at Castle Coronet, Guernsey (until 1 Oct; www.museum.guernsey.net/castle). He also contributes to an exhibition at the British Museum, London (3 Oct 2008-25 Jan 2009). His proposal One and Other has been chosen to surmount the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square (see RA Magazine, Spring 2008, page 95)
  • Nigel Hall shows recent sculptures and drawings at Park Ryu Sook Gallery in Seoul, Korea (26 Sep-10 Oct; www.parkryusookgallery.co.kr). He also takes part in the Seoul Olympics twentieth anniversary exhibition at the Seoul Olympics Museum of Art (17 Sep-17 Oct; www.somamuseum.org)
  • Anish Kapoor has a solo show at Kukje Gallery, Seoul (3 Sep-5 Oct; www.kukjegallery.com). He also stages ‘Memory’ at Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (30 Oct 2008-25 Jan 2009; www.deutsche-guggenheim.de) and has designed the set for In-I at the National Theatre, London (page 42; opening 6 Sep)
  • Richard Long contributes to the group show ‘Conversations’ at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge (27 Sep-15 Nov)
  • William Tucker has an exhibition of new work at the McKee Gallery, New York (2 Oct-1 Nov; www.mckeegallery.com)

ARCHITECTS

  • David Chipperfield has won three RIBA Awards - a RIBA National Award for his BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow, and RIBA European Awards for his gallery building Am Kupfergraben 10 in Berlin and the Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg. His firm has also won the competition to design the new gateway building at HEC School of Management, Paris, scheduled for completion by September 2010. Chipperfield and Antony Gormley design the 2008 pavilion ‘Architecture for the Subjective Experience’ for the Kivik Art Centre, Osterlen, Sweden (until 28 Sep; www.kivikart.se)
  • Norman Foster’s firm has redesigned the elephant house at Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark, completed the Vivaldi Tower in Amsterdam and designed the new waterfront for Rimini, Italy (www.fostersandpartners.com)
  • Zaha Hadid Architects won a RIBA European Award for its Nordpark Cable Railway. It also takes part in ‘Artists’ Playground’, a group exhibition at Sudeley Castle, Gloucestershire (until 31 Oct). Zaha Hadid designs the Chanel Pavilion that houses the exhibition ‘Mobile Art’ in Central Park, New York, in October (www.zahahadid.com)
  • An exhibition of Ian Ritchie Architects’ work is on show at Liverpool University as part of the city’s year as Capital of Culture (www.ianritchiearchitects.co.uk; page 53)
  • Chris Wilkinson’s firm has been asked to renovate Apraksin Dvor, the market district, in St Petersburg, Russia. The firm is also designing a bridge over the Fontanka Canal, Russia (www.wilkinsoneyre.com)
